Memory Assessment Clinic
Who is the Memory Assessment Clinic for?
If you’re aged 65 or over and concerned about changes in your memory, our private Memory Clinic in Leeds and Bradford offers a clear path to understanding what might be causing it. This service is ideal for those who want expert assessment, answers, and personalised support from experienced doctors.
What happens after you get in touch?
Once you contact the clinic, we’ll check a few basic details with you to make sure this service is right for you. Your case is then reviewed by one of our specialist doctors, who will call you to go over your history and explain what happens next. If needed, we’ll arrange blood tests and a CT scan for you.
After your test results are ready, we’ll invite you for a face-to-face consultation at our Eccleshill clinic.
What to expect on the day of your appointment
Your appointment with the specialist doctor usually lasts around 90 minutes but can take up to two hours. During this session, the doctor will take a full medical history, carry out a cognitive test, review your test results, and talk through what they find. If medication is appropriate, this will be discussed too.
Follow-up care and reviews
Two weeks later, you’ll have a follow-up with our Support Worker either in person or over the phone. This session gives you time to ask questions and talk through your diagnosis and next steps. You’ll also get a written information pack with helpful resources.
Two weeks after that, you’ll see the doctor again for a review. If you’ve started medication, a final check-up is held four weeks later to ensure everything is going well. After that, your GP will manage your prescriptions. If you’d like to come back for future memory reviews, you’re always welcome to contact us.

FAQs
How long will it take to get an appointment?
We usually offer appointments within 4 weeks. If it’s urgent, we’ll try to see you sooner.
What happens before the appointment?
Before your face-to-face assessment, you’ll need to have some routine blood tests and a CT scan. Depending on your health history, you may also need an ECG. If these haven’t already been arranged by your GP, we’ll sort them for you.
>How will I receive my results?
The doctor will talk through your results during the appointment and answer any questions. You’ll also receive a written report within 7 working days. With your permission, we’ll send a copy to your GP too.
Can I bring someone with me?
Absolutely. A partner, family member, or friend is welcome to attend your appointment with you.
How do I get a prescription?
If medication is needed, the doctor will issue a private prescription. You can take this to any pharmacy of your choice. The prescription usually covers 8 weeks, after which your GP will take over your care.
What if no clear cause is found?
In some cases, the assessment may show that your memory changes are part of normal ageing. In others, a memory problem may be identified but without a clear cause. If so, we’ll explain this during your appointment and advise on next steps, which often includes seeing your GP.
