Academic Background & Experience
I am a consultant gynaecologist and gynaecological oncology surgeon. I qualified from ‘The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland’ in 2005.
I undertook general obstetric and gynaecological training in Lancashire and completed a Medical Doctorate in ‘Biospectroscopy towards screening and diagnosis of cancer’. I sub-specialised as a gynaecological oncology surgeon in Leeds and was appointed as a consultant at St James’s University Hospital in 2017. I am a registered colposcopist with the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) and a member of the British Gynaecological Cancer Society (BGCS) and European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO).
I have developed the gynaecological oncology robotic surgery service in St James’s Hospital, Leeds. I am an honorary senior lecturer at Leeds University. I have developed and delivered courses for post-graduate medical education, including cadaveric surgery.
I am the clinical director for the Gynaecology Optimal Pathway Group for the West Yorkshire & Harrogate Cancer Alliance and the Lead Clinician for the Central Gynaecological Oncology multidisciplinary team at St James’s Hospital, Leeds.
My research interests include the use of artificial intelligence for improving diagnosis and treatment outcomes in gynaecological cancer. I am also interested in collaborative intelligence to improve communication between health care and patients.
